You must first set the goals that you want to achieve and keep them in mind. Without goals, you wouldn't know where you want go, so we first decide what we want to achieve and then go after them. Your trainer should know your goals and should line you up in the direction to accomplish them. When a tourist decides to visit a destination, that person purchases their plane ticket and set out on that journey, they may not quite know the route to get there, but what they do know is the destination and what it should look like. The pilot will then do the route selection to get to that specific location; likewise with fitness, you decide where you want to go and then let your trainer steer you in that direction.
